Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Controller and Chief Financial Officer Ron Galperin launched his campaign today to succeed State Controller Betty Yee who is leaving office due to term limits. Galperin redefined the job of Controller in the nation’s second biggest city with transparency, accountability and innovation.
In announcing his bid for statewide office, Galperin garnered the support of State Controller Betty Yee.
“I am pleased to endorse Ron Galperin for State Controller,” State Controller Yee said. “As Los Angeles Controller, Galperin has demanded the kind of accountability, transparency, and equity our State needs. Galperin’s experience and accomplishments leading government reform and innovation will help realize a California that works for everyone.”
As Los Angeles Controller, Galperin has served as the city’s elected watchdog and has issued hard-hitting audits and demanded reforms to tackle the most critical issues we face. His reports have received national recognition from good government organizations and been adopted by communities and policymakers throughout California. Most notably, Galperin’s unflinching reports on homelessness and outreach have demanded urgent action on the most pressing social crisis facing California.
The son of immigrants and of a Holocaust survivor, Galperin is L.A.’s first Citywide-elected LGBTQ official. As Controller, Galperin has worked to ensure public dollars are spent transparently, efficiently, and equitably. Galperin’s leadership has improved service delivery and achieved measurable results. Galperin launched the first open data portal to detail how every tax dollar is spent on goods, services, salaries, and provides metrics to measure how equitably City departments serve communities. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Galperin created a comprehensive resource hub for L.A. to track virus testing and vaccination efforts across the city.
“I am honored to have Controller Betty Yee’s support and excited to jumpstart my campaign for State Controller,” Galperin said. “As our state’s next Controller, I intend to fight for every Californian and to assure that public dollars are spent transparently, effectively and equitably. I will expand financial literacy for every resident, track every dollar spent, and create publicly accessible dashboards, maps and tools to make government accountable.”
Galperin is running for California State Controller with the credibility and track record to oversee California’s $262 billion dollar budget and payroll for 235,000 state employees. Galperin has the experience, and commitment to equity to ensure California works for the financial health of all Californians.
